This is something that I worked on for myself some time back when I acquired a GBA micro without a faceplate. I’d like to sell these, but I’m hoping to get some feedback before stocking up.
There are two ways that I can do this. 1, I can carry popular colors with popular designs that are always ready to ship out, or 2, I can do a batch of custom orders in a ‘group buy’ manner. This would give you folks the opportunity to have your own, unique faceplate with your choice of colors, graphics, images, etc.
So, let’s here what you think about this! Tell me what colors and/or designs you want. Pokemon, Megaman, Mario, whatever. How much is something like this worth to you? Mind you, these aren’t manufactured on a large scale. They are made in small batches.
Also, I’d like to shamelessly plug my other brand of product which just happen to get along quite nicely with the GBA micro 🙂

I would love a faceplate since the Micro I acquired had a scratch down the screen. Fancy custom designs aren’t needed for me. Just something simple so I can see clearly again without having to spend a fortune on them online. I would hope the price is in the $5-$10 range plus shipping. Lower would be better. The outcome looks fantastic.

They’ll definitely be more than 5-10 unfortunately. But, I was hoping that the custom nature of the product would make up for the sorta higher prices. I’ll post some pricing once I get a good feel for what folks are thinking. Thanks for the feedback!

I’m definitely interested in this! I’ve always wondered if someone out there made Gameboy micro faceplates. I’ve read the comments about the possible pricing, and it sounds good to me. Anything beats hunting for the few that pop up on eBay, and I’m not the biggest fan of the designs that were officially made anyways. Personally I just want a couple of nice plain ones in solid colors, but the option for custom designs would be nice for people who are into that.

Oh, gotcha. Don’t worry about that happening. As you can see in the pics, these aren’t the exact shape and material of the originals. It would be easy to spot a fake for anyone with some experience with the micro.

20 + shipping, but we’re talking a flat, flexible piece of plastic. 1st class shipping will be roughly $1.60. I will most definitely give shipping discounts and discounts on multiples if enough are ordered. I can likely ship 5 or more for around 2.50 including postage and the padded envelope. I don’t make a dime on shipping for anything that I sell. In fact, I often take a small hit just to get the prices to a more rounded number.

Also, I’d recommend having at least one basic (probably black) faceplate design pre-made in bulk for the ‘I-just-need-a-new-faceplate’ crowd. Making custom faceplates is a worthwhile and exciting endeavor, but you’d be one the few (couple?) sources for new Micro faceplates, period.

I feel like, if you want to, you could make simple colors available in multi-packs, which would (like typical bulk buys) have a reasonable price for the pack which has a slightly lower cost per piece.
And if you ever need suggestions for faceplate designs, just give the word.

If I buy enough, then I will get a better price on them, and thus can offer them at a better price for you guys and gals. It seems like there’s enough demand for them, so the next round might see larger volume with lower prices 😀

A couple of questions:
So these faceplates don’t have tabs on them to hold them in place and instead use an adhesive back? If so, the adhesive is strong enough that it will not peel up after a while of use?
What material are the faceplates made out of? If it is flexible, then it seems they would be somewhat soft and scratch easily? It’s sounds like it’s not hard plastic?
Thanks!

Yes, they use adhesive. They use a permanent 3M adhesive that should las the life of the micro.
