About

I’ve been a gamer since I could reach the controls of Moon Patrol at my local arcade (with the aid of a milk crate).  While I love modern games and the consoles on which we play them, I have a particular fondness for the classics. I’ve found myself spending much of my free time during the last couple of years modifying older consoles to provide better video picture on modern TVs, adding back and front lighting to portable consoles that were never offered with such features, finding ways to display many of the classic cartridge-based games that I love so dearly in such a way that they’re easy to locate on a shelf, look pleasant and uniform, and help preserve their fragile innards so that I may enjoy them for many years to come, and many other things from something as simple as adding a differently colored power indicator LED on a Sega Genesis, to completely custom, CAD-designed shells for consoles like the Super Nintendo and Neo-Geo.

As this hobby has started to absorb more and more of my personal time, I thought it might serve me well to turn my passion and hobby into a business, and so Rose Colored Gaming was born!

Stay tuned for new products and services, many of which aren’t available anywhere else, reviews of some of my favorite (and least favorite) game-related forums/blogs/websites, and write-ups concerning care for, restoration, and storage of classic games and game systems. Stay tuned and visit the web store from time to time to see what’s for sale.

With the addition of A-Dizzle to RCG we will do our best to accommodate you.  As far as ordering concerns, most of your questions probably already have answers here in our FAQ’s: FAQ. Please pardon my somewhat sparse blog.  I’m a blog noob.

  2. I will gladly ship one to you. Do you have a color preference?

  3. Do you have a PayPal account? If so,
It’s only $10 more to ship either a kit or a pre-modded GBA.

Your mods and products look fantastic! I’m interested in front lighting a Wonderswan. Would you have anything that could help??

  5. I have the materials to do that with, but I generally don’t sell a kit, as the parts are really fragile and I’ve had problems in the past.

Buuut, I do offer a front light mod service, or I can tell you how to find the parts and how to do the mod if you really wanna tackle it on your own.

I’ve honestly never done any sort of mod MYSELF. The closest I’ve come is re-calibrating disc-drives in PS2’s and Dreamcasts. Though I’ve got a friend that could help. Is it a difficult mod? Also, how much would you charge to do it if I go that route?

  7. It takes a moderate amount of work. I wouldn’t suggest it as a first mod. Again, the parts are fragile, and the area in which you have to work is tight and the solder points are rather small. For a Wonderswan front light mod it’s $45 shipped plus I can give it the same treatment as the modded GBAs (hard case and custom serial and model labels) for another $10 to make it a complete and tidy package 🙂

Oh man this looks awesome… Could you do a guide on painting a GBA SP? I’m gonna buy one soon and would love to paint it…

    Like

  11. I have a paint guide up already. There’s nothing particularly tricky about the GBA. The only real difference between painting something like a portable or controller versus a home console or anything else that doesn’t get handled much is the amount and type of top coat that I use. Handling = wear, so you wan to make sure that you really protect the finish underneath 😉

  14. Hello from TCP =D Hey Wigg I was wondering if you know how much battery life you get out of a front lit Wonderswan Crystal? Unmodded I hear its like 15 hours or so. I have been considering picking one up and grabbing some of the English friendly titles. You wouldn’t happen to have any available for mod would you? I would imagine I wouldnt be all to keen to buy one off ebay then to send it out right away lol

  15. Actually I mean the Wonderswan Color not Crystal lol Aiming for the FF white version =D

  16. I haven’t tested battery life yet. I’ll do a test this coming week between a modded and un-modded unit.

I don’t have any one hand. If you want to put down a deposit for a console then I’ll happily pick one up for you. Let me know and I’ll hunt one down.

    Like

  17. Sure. Like I said, let me know and I’ll hunt one down. They are pretty cheap if you’re OK with a loose console.

  18. Sure wiggs that sounds great. If you can get your hands on a Wonderswan Color white FF edition or paint one to look like it that would be awesome. As for it being loose I am koo with that long as its not horribly banged up and has batt covers etc =D How much of a deposit would you need?

    Like

  19. I can most definitely do that. Let me find a few for you then you can tell me which one works best for you price and condition-wise, then we’ll go from there. I’ll take a deposit for the cost of the unit, then invoice you for the modifications once they’re complete. Sound good?

  20. Sounds awesome to me man. I sent you a fb message about a decent one I saw on eBay. That came with FF1 & 2 for under $40. Dont have any games yet so something like that would be ideal to test and such . =D Although it sucks those 2 titles arnt English friendly but eh what are you going to do lol. Email me or fb message me through rise coloured gaming fb page =D Can’t wait to hold a wiggyswan =D
